Meeting Highlights

The Burien City Council will convene for an upcoming council meeting on Monday, January 12, 2026, that includes the annual election of council leadership, important financial updates, and discussion of priorities for the year ahead.

The meeting will begin with the election of the City of Burien Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Following agenda confirmation, the Council will receive a Burien Emergency Management Update from Emergency Management Coordinator Chris Smith. The presentation will provide an overview of preparedness efforts, response planning, and coordination aimed at keeping the Burien community safe during emergencies.

Councilmembers will then share updates during Council Reports, followed by the City Manager’s Report, offering insights into ongoing projects and city operations.

Community members are invited to participate during Public Comment.

Under the Business Agenda, the Council will discuss and consider approval of 2026 City Proclamations, presented by the Communications and Public Engagement team. Councilmembers will also receive a Financial Forecast Update from the Finance Department, offering an overview of the City’s current and projected financial outlook.

Additional business includes consideration of new Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grants through Ordinance No. 887, which would amend the City’s 2026 revised budget, and a review of the City Council Planning Calendar to guide future council work.

The meeting will conclude with an Executive Session to discuss ongoing litigation, as permitted under state law, before adjournment.
