The Burien City Council will interview five candidates Monday, July 27, as it works to fill the vacant Position No. 2 seat on the council.
The interviews are scheduled during the council's regular meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at Burien City Hall. Following the interviews, the council may appoint one of the candidates to serve the remainder of the term.
The five candidates selected for interviews are:
- Jacques Colon
- Jessica Ivey
- Krystal Marx
- Patricia Hudson
- Torrance Dixon
According to the agenda bill, the vacancy was created after Councilmember Linda Akey announced her resignation on May 18. Fourteen residents applied before the June 26 deadline. The council narrowed the field to five finalists at its July 13 meeting, and each candidate will have up to 20 minutes to interview during Monday's public meeting.

The agenda indicates the council may appoint a candidate following the interviews. Under Washington law, the City Council has 90 days to fill the vacancy.

Here are the key items to watch:
- Seattle City Light Utility Update – An overview from Seattle City Light on utility-related issues affecting Burien.
- 2026 Budget Update – Finance staff will present how the city's revenues and spending compare with the budget through the first half of the year.
- Public Comment – Residents may speak for up to two minutes. Anyone wishing to comment must sign up before the meeting begins. Written comments may also be submitted to the City Clerk.
- Residential Conversion Ordinance – Council is scheduled to adopt Ordinance No. 895, which addresses the residential conversion of existing buildings.
- City Council Vacancy Interviews – The council will interview the five finalists for the vacant Position No. 2 seat before selecting Burien's newest councilmember.
- Possible Appointment – Following interviews and an executive session to evaluate candidates, the council may vote to appoint a new councilmember during the same meeting.
- Executive Session – Council will also meet privately to discuss personnel complaints and pending or potential litigation, with possible action afterward.
