A large turnout is expected at tonight’s Highline School board meeting, as families, staff, and labor supporters prepare to speak on two pressing issues: leadership changes at North Hill Elementary and concerns over the Teamsters paraeducator contract.
At the center of the North Hill issue is the reported involuntary transfer of Principal Kimberly Jones and Assistant Principal Kaitlyn O’Leary from North Hill Elementary School. Supporters say the potential move raises urgent concerns about stability, staff morale, and continuity for students.
The district says it is currently seeking feedback from families and staff as the first step in the hiring process to replace the leadership team.
Several speakers have signed up to address the North Hill situation, with many expected to urge the board to reconsider the decision and provide clarity on the process behind the transfers.
At the same time, additional speakers plan to raise concerns related to the Teamsters-represented paraeducators, focusing on contract issues that impact working conditions and support for students. Paraeducators play a key role in classrooms across the district, particularly in supporting students with additional learning and behavioral needs.
The convergence of these two issues is expected to draw a larger-than-usual crowd and extend public comment during the meeting.
The board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at district offices, 15675 Ambaum Blvd. SW.
The Highline Journal will follow the meeting and provide updates.
