Highline voters will consider two school measures on the Nov. 3 ballot: a school construction bond and a separate four-year capital technology levy. Highline school tours will focus on the major projects proposed in the construction bond.

Community members are invited to tour four Highline Public Schools this October and see firsthand how the buildings serve students today.

The following information is based on a Highline School District press release.

Tours are available at Cascade, Chinook and Sylvester middle schools and CHOICE Academy. Visitors can see learning spaces in use, learn about current building conditions and hear what projects would be funded if voters approve the school construction bond on the Nov. 3 ballot.

The small-group informational tours are open to everyone, including community members who do not have students enrolled in Highline schools.

Most tours take place during the school day, providing an opportunity to see how students and staff use the buildings each day. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

Registration Required

Advance registration is required, and each tour is limited to 10 participants because most tours take place while school is in session. Each person must register separately.

Registration closes two business days before each tour or when the tour reaches capacity. If a tour is full, additional participants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted in order if a spot becomes available.

About the School Construction Bond and Technology Levy

Highline’s school construction bond and technology levy information

The proposed school construction bond would address facility needs across Highline, including replacing aging neighborhood schools, improving safety and accessibility, and updating learning spaces.

Projects included in the bond package are:
  • Replace Sylvester and Cascade middle schools
  • Address critical needs across the district, including roof replacements and new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
  • Provide funding to design a new Hilltop Elementary and Valley View Early Learning Center
  • Rebuild the Southern Heights site to serve CHOICE Academy
  • Complete a partial rebuild and major renovation at Chinook Middle School

The separate technology levy would resume local funding for technology systems used for instruction, communication, cybersecurity, school operations and student services.
