We’re starting something new at The Highline Journal.

It’s called Burien Observers.

This column is a little different. It’s written by longtime Burien residents who've been paying attention for years. Not city insiders. Just your neighbors who read the agendas, sit through meetings when they can, and notice when something changes, and nobody really explains it.

The focus is pretty simple. Zoning, neighborhood safety, and city planning. The stuff that ends up affecting your street, your commute, your kids’ school, your day-to-day life. The stuff most people care about, but don’t have time to chase down.

The observers are going to ask the kinds of questions you’ve probably had yourself. When did that get approved? What’s actually going on in there? How close is it to homes or schools? What does it look like in real life, not just a line on a map?

The writers are mostly staying anonymous. In a place like Burien, that just makes it easier to keep the focus on the information.

No big agenda. Just keeping an eye on things and putting it in plain language.

You’ll start seeing Burien Observers regularly.

If you’re a neighbor who pays attention to civic meetings, neighborhood concerns, and what’s happening around you, we’d love to have you be part of this. Reach out at info@thehighlinejournal.com.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s going on in your neighborhood, this one’s for you.
