SEATAC - A new affordable housing development led by African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) in SeaTac will make up a significant share of 629 affordable housing units recently approved by King County, following a $23.7 million funding announcement this week.

King County Executive Girmay Zahilay awarded Housing Finance Program funding to eight developments across South King County, East King County, and Seattle, creating 672 affordable homes countywide. The SeaTac project will deliver 129 affordable rental homes, making it the largest single development in South King County included in this funding round.

“The demand for affordable housing in King County is urgent and undeniable,” Zahilay said. “Too many individuals and families are being priced out of the communities they call home. Everyone deserves a place to live with dignity and stability.”

The SeaTac development will serve immigrant and refugee families, individuals, and people experiencing homelessness, helping address ongoing housing shortages in an area with limited affordable options. The project will be overseen by ACHD, a nonprofit housing provider based in South King County.

County officials say the funding supports housing development near transit and employment centers and helps stabilize communities facing rising housing costs. King County works with each project from early planning through construction to ensure long-term affordability.

According to the Countywide Housing Needs Assessment, the region will need 178,000 affordable homes by 2044, including 166,000 for households earning below 50% of area median income.

Since 2022, King County’s Housing Finance Program has awarded more than $171 million, supporting over 3,600 affordable homes countywide.
