According to a Let's Go Washington press release, supporters of Stop the Income Tax Initiative 26-645 have submitted enough signatures to place the measure on the November ballot. The requirement is 309,000 valid signatures.
During a KIRO interview on June 18, Brian Heywood, chairman of Let's Go Washington PAC, announced that as of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, they had gathered 317, 506 signatures.
This ballot initiative, if passed, would repeal Washington's recently enacted 9.9% tax on annual individual income exceeding $1 million (commonly called the "millionaires tax.")
Supporters of the initiative argue the new tax, if it is not repealed, could pave the way for a broader statewide income tax in the future. They also contend the measure unfairly targets individuals, entrepreneurs, pass-through business owners, and retirees while exempting many large corporations.
Opponents of the repeal have argued that the tax affects only the state's highest-income earners and provides funding for public investments.

STOP THE INCOME TAX
Ballot Measure Summary
This measure would repeal a 9.9% tax on annual individual income over $1,000,000; prohibit state and local governments from imposing taxes on individual income or the receipt of individual income and taxes measured by an individual’s income; and define income as “any gain or benefit measured in money derived from an individual’s capital, labor, property, or other source.” It would also define “individual” as a natural person for purposes of excise taxes.
Local Commentary
The Highline Journal spoke with several local residents and small business owners who were relieved that the initiative will be on the ballot.
One Burien business owner exclaimed, "I am ecstatic at the news that Washington voters will have the opportunity to say NO to legislators who want to push an income tax on Washington taxpayers." Adding, "How many times do we have to vote this thing down?"
What next?
Supporters of IP26-645 officially will turn in petition signatures to the Washington Secretary of State's Office on July 2, saying they collected enough signatures to qualify the measure for the November ballot.
In the meantime, LGW will continue collecting signatures over the next week. According to Heywood, their goal is 700,000 voter signatures.
