Washington State Department of Transportation Local Travel Advisory

WSDOT sent out details on road closures for SeaTac and Burien residents this week. There will be overnight road closures on South 200th street Wednesday, Feb 4 through the morning of Friday, February 6.

According to the notice: The closures will allow crews to build bridge foundations for the SR 509 Expressway’s flagship bridge. When completed, the bridge will span 1,587 feet, crossing over the Des Moines Creek wetland, South 200th Street, and the Lake to Sound Trail.

South 200th Street closure information

  • Wednesday, Feb. 4 through the morning of Friday, Feb. 6
  • 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. — South 200th Street will close nightly in both directions
  • Closure area: 18th Avenue South to Des Moines Creek Trail
  • A signed detour will be in place

SR 509 Completion Project

The SR 509 Completion Project is building 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street, near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Project milestones include:

  • I-5 to 24th Avenue South segment opened June 28, 2025
  • New tunnel under I-5 at SR 516 opened July 16, 2025
  • Final stage will complete the remaining 2 miles between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street

The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.
