A mobile concert hall is rolling through the Pacific Northwest, starting at the Tukwila Community Center on June 18, bringing live classical music directly into parks, neighborhoods, markets, and public gathering spaces across the region. The Concert Truck Founder, Susan Zhang, along with other musicians from the Seattle Chamber Music Society, performs these beautiful classical concerts for free.
Known as The Concert Truck, the traveling performance venue transforms a 16-foot box truck into a fully equipped outdoor concert stage complete with lighting, sound equipment, and even a grand piano. The project is designed to make live music more accessible by taking performances beyond traditional concert halls and into everyday community spaces.
The truck is scheduled to make appearances June 18- July 6, 2026, throughout the Seattle area during the summer season, with performances planned in several locations nearby, such as:
Thur. June 18 | 12pm | Tukwila Community Center, Songs Without Words
Thur. June 25 | 12pm | Burien Farmer's Market, Opera to Salon
Sat. June 27 | 7pm | Alki Beach Bathhouse, Opera to Salon
More information and a full schedule of upcoming appearances can be found on the Seattle Chamber Music Society website.
Organizers say the free performances are intended to welcome families, first-time listeners, and longtime classical music fans alike.
Originally launched in 2016, The Concert Truck has traveled across the country, presenting chamber music performances in schools, city streets, festivals, and neighborhood gathering places. The concept gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, when outdoor performances became an innovative way to safely connect communities through live arts programming.
In 2025, the Seattle Chamber Music Society acquired The Concert Truck as part of its ongoing effort to expand access to the arts across the region. According to the organization, the mobile venue allows musicians to reach audiences who may not otherwise attend a traditional concert hall performance.
The Pacific Northwest has long embraced creative approaches to arts programming, and the traveling concert model appears to fit naturally within the region’s strong community festival and outdoor culture.
Supporters say the appeal of the Concert Truck lies in its simplicity: people can stumble upon a professional live performance while walking through a park, visiting a market, or enjoying a summer afternoon outdoors. Instead of asking audiences to come to the music, the music comes directly to the community.
