Des Moines drew large crowds for its annual Waterland Parade. Seafair pirates, drill teams, and a wide range of community organizations and residents participated in the event

Perfect summer weather set the stage Saturday evening on July 18th as hundreds of parade-lovers lined Marine View Drive for one of Des Moines' most beloved traditions, the 2026 Waterland Parade.

Proudly sanctioned by Seafair, this year's parade brought together marching bands, dancers, community organizations, local businesses, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Crowd favorites included the legendary Seafair Pirates, whose cannon blasts and playful antics delighted spectators, along with the always-popular Seafair Clowns spreading smiles up and down the parade route.

The parade followed a new southbound route along Marine View Drive, traveling from South 216th Street to South 226th Street instead of the traditional uphill, northbound route. The annual event remains a highlight of summer in Des Moines.

New this year, the celebration didn't end when the final parade entry passed by. Attendees were invited to stay for the inaugural Waterland Block Party in front of the Des Moines Theater, where a DJ, beer garden, children's activities, live entertainment, local food, and appearances from some of the parade participants kept the festivities going until about 10 p.m.

With clear skies, enthusiastic crowds, and a full evening of community celebration, the 2026 Waterland Parade once again showcased the spirit that has made Waterland Festival a treasured South King County tradition for generations.
