Evergreen High School was closed Wednesday, November 19, after an anonymous online threat prompted a full evacuation on Tuesday afternoon. Law enforcement investigated and later cleared the building, determining the threat was not credible.

According to a Wednesday morning message from Highline Public Schools, families and students were permitted to retrieve belongings on campus Wednesday, with additional time provided Thursday morning.

A King County Sheriff’s Office dispatch recording indicates the threat was reported after being seen on Reddit. Deputies and the Bomb Disposal Unit swept the building and found no explosive devices. “All the children were safe,” said Brandyn Hull, Communications Manager for the Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

District Message Sent to Entire District in Error

The initial evacuation notice—intended only for Evergreen families—was mistakenly sent districtwide, causing confusion at schools not involved. A follow-up message titled “School Notification Sent in Error” clarified, “This situation is specific to Evergreen High School only. There is no emergency at any other school.”

School Expected to Reopen Thursday

A parent told the Highline Journal the school informed families that Evergreen is expected to reopen on Thursday, November 20. The district has not publicly issued a reopening announcement.

The Highline Journal reached out to Highline Public Schools for further comment and has not yet received a response.
