The Des Moines Memorial Drive Preservation Association will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. to honor and commemorate military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty defending the United States.
The event will take place at the historic Sunnydale Elementary School, located at 15623 Des Moines Memorial Drive South in Burien. Organizers encourage attendees to dress appropriately for weather conditions. Parking will be available on site, and refreshments will be served indoors following the ceremony.
The program will open with the presentation of the colors by American Legion Post 134. Soloist Kate Bysheim will perform the National Anthem.
Midway through the ceremony, Chris Plyman will present a historical presentation. Musical performances will follow by SilverSounds Singers, who will perform several patriotic selections.
The ceremony will also recognize longtime board members Rose Clark and Kitty Milne for their many years of dedication and service to the organization.
Organizers noted that the association is proud to serve as an official participating organization of America250 WA and is offering the ceremony as part of the American experience commemorations taking place across the state.
