Burien Residents to Receive 850 Free Trees
Thanks to a partnership with King Conservation District, 850 trees will be distributed to Burien residents who signed up for our Burien Tree Giveaway. Participants were eligible to receive up to two free trees to plant, supporting our community-wide effort to grow Burien’s tree canopy to 40% by 2038—equitably distributed across all neighborhoods. Each tree planted helps improve local air and water quality, keeps the city cool on hot days, and contributes to a healthier, more resilient city. While this year’s giveaway has wrapped up, stay involved with the Green Burien Partnership, and watch this newsletter for additional updates.
Help Shape Burien’s Environmental Protections
The Electrify Burien program provides reimbursements to eligible Burien residents looking to increase the energy efficiency of their homes and aid in the citywide effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Burien residents are eligible for a one-time reimbursement of up to $2,500 per household. The program will operate on a first-come, first-served model while funds are available.
Help Shape Burien's Environmental Protections
Updating critical area regulations is crucial for implementing the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan while supporting the City and community’s vision for effective and appropriate regulations that balance responsible growth and development. The City’s Community Development Department is looking at ways to protect our natural resources and enhance public safety and protection from issues like sleep slopes or landslide hazard areas.
Adopt-a-Drain Today
Volunteer fifteen minutes, twice a month, for cleaner waterways and healthier communities. Adopt-a-Drain asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution and help prevent localized flooding
