Highline Strategic Plan Family Engagement Meeting Tonight
The school district is hosting the first of three public meetings to request public input on its strategic plan and budget. If you have ideas or concerns about the direction of the district, this is a great opportunity to share your thoughts.

During the sessions, according to the Highline School announcement, participants can expect:
- A brief overview of their strategic plan and why they are updating it.
- A brief update on the budget.
- A clear explanation of what they are seeking feedback on.
- Structured opportunities to share feedback and perspectives.

Regular School Board Meeting: Wednesday, Jan 21, 6:00 p.m.
The meeting will take place in the Boardroom at the Central Office Building located at 15675 Ambaum Blvd SW Burien

Agenda Items:
- Acknowledgement and Appreciation: The board will recognize African Community Housing and Development as a community partner, highlighting the organization’s contributions and partnership with the district.
- Superintendent and Director Reports: Superintendent reports will include a Labor Partner Update from Jeb Binns, President of the Highline Education Association, as well as a Budget Update. Board directors will also share individual reports.
- Public Testimony: Community members will have an opportunity to address the board during Scheduled Communications – Public Testimony, allowing public voices to be heard on issues important to students, families, and the district.
- Public Comments: Sign-ups are open from 9:00 a.m. on the Monday of the week of a Board meeting and close at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting (Wednesday). You may sign up by contacting the Office of the Superintendent at (206) 631-3070, or by filling out the form below. Leaving a message prior to 9:00 a.m. on Mondays, the week of the Regular Board Meeting will not allow a speaker to jump the queue.
- Consent Agenda: The board will consider several routine items through the consent agenda, including:
- Approval of minutes from the January 7, 2026 Regular School Board Meeting and the January 14, 2026 Special Board Meeting
- Approval of accounts payable vouchers
- Approval of the personnel report
- Approval of a donation to White Center Heights Elementary School
Any items removed from the consent agenda will be discussed separately.
- Action Items: The board will take action on two bond-related resolutions:
- Resolution 01-26: A proposal to refinance approximately $33 million in remaining bond debt from 2015, contingent on favorable market conditions later this spring.
- Resolution 02-26: Authorization to issue the remaining $98 million from the 2022 bond measure to support construction of Pacific Middle School.
Approval of these resolutions would authorize the district to move forward with bond refunding and issuance.
- Introduction and Action Item:The board will consider revisions to the salary schedule for substitute (guest) staff and athletic coaches, reflecting the City of Burien’s minimum wage increase. If approved, the updated salary matrix and schedule would take effect on January 1, 2026.
- Introduction Items: Several additional items will be introduced for board consideration, including:
- A new Board Policy 3425 – Accommodating Students with Adrenal Insufficiency, as required by state law
- Final acceptance and close-out of the Cascade Middle School Lighting Grant Project
- Final acceptance and close-out of the Districtwide Roof Replacements and Restoration Project
- Closing: The meeting will conclude with a call for additions to the upcoming consent agenda and adjournment. A full calendar of district events is available on the district website.Community members are encouraged to attend and stay engaged in the work of the School Board.
