Dear Editor and Burien Voters
You have probably received a ballot that includes the opportunity to vote for the Burien City Council positions 1, 3, 5, and 7. There is a clear choice between two slates of candidates. One slate of candidates will keep in place the homeless camping ban, and the other will support a repeal of the ban.
Not long ago the residents of Burien could not visit the downtown area without seeing a large number of tents and people living in squalor outside City Hall, the library and local businesses. Families were reluctant to take their children to the library or City Hall Park. The lives of the homeless did not improve during this time. It would be a mistake to repeal the camping ban and return Burien to that sad state of affairs.
I will vote for the candidates who will keep the camping ban in place and support the City’s efforts to find housing and offer services to the homeless, particularly those with mental health, drug abuse and alcohol abuse issues. I encourage you to do so as well.
The City Council candidates who will keep the camping ban in place and support providing housing and services for the homeless are Marie Barbon, Gabriel Fernandez, Jessica Ivey and Stephanie Mora.
Please cast your votes for these candidates.
Thank you,
Marco Spani
