Residents of South King County will have an opportunity to engage directly with local leaders and transportation officials during an upcoming Transit Town Hall focused on the future of regional transit expansion.
Date: Wednesday, May 13
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Location: Highline College, Building 2
Address: 2400 S. 240th Street, Des Moines
Hosted by the Transportation Choices Coalition, the event will center on the evolving plans for Sound Transit and the challenges facing its long-range expansion program.
At the heart of the discussion is a pivotal moment for Sound Transit. Following the announcement of roughly $35 billion in cost overruns tied to its long-range plan, the agency is reassessing how to deliver on voter-approved projects while navigating financial and logistical constraints. While the Federal Way light rail extension has already reached South King County, key decisions remain about how and when to complete additional investments.
Projects expected to be part of the conversation include the Boeing Access Infill Station, Sounder rail expansion, and future parking investments tied to transit access.
The event will feature remarks from King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, along with a panel discussion including the Mayor of Tukwila Thomas McLeod and King County Councilmember Steffanie Fain. A presentation from Sound Transit on its Enterprise Initiative will provide additional context before attendees are invited to participate in both structured and open Q&A sessions.
Moderating the discussion will be Holden Minor Ringer, advocacy manager for Transportation Choices Coalition.
Attendees can expect a community-focused conversation designed to inform and engage residents on the decisions shaping the region’s transit future.
