Spring cleaning season is here, and residents of Burien and Normandy Park will once again have an opportunity to recycle a wide variety of household items at the annual Spring Recycling Event.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center, 19010 First Avenue South in Burien.
Organizers note that no vehicles will be admitted after 3 p.m.
Event Highlights

- Free recycling: Electronics, televisions, household batteries, vehicle batteries, scrap wood, confidential paper shredding, and up to six passenger tires
- Items recycled for a fee: Mattresses, appliances, porcelain tubs, toilets and sinks, propane tanks, and additional tires
- Bonus giveaway: One free rain barrel, compost bin, or worm bin per vehicle while supplies last
- Payment: Cash only for fee-based items
Residents can bring a variety of materials that are often difficult to dispose of through regular curbside collection. Electronics such as televisions, laptops, cell phones, tablets, DVD players, keyboards, and VCRs will be accepted. The event will also offer confidential document shredding, with a limit of five file-size boxes or seven grocery bags per vehicle.
Organizers remind participants to secure their loads before traveling to the event, remain in their vehicles except when unloading materials, and pack items so they can be removed quickly.
Hazardous waste, including products labeled "Caution," "Warning," "Danger," or "Poison," will not be accepted. Residents with those materials should contact the King County Hazardous Waste Program for proper disposal options.
