The Northwest Symphony Orchestra (NWSO) season will open with Sounds of the American West, a family concert dedicated to celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Families are encouraged to attend and help celebrate on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Highline Performing Arts Center.

The musical program also honors the Northwest Symphony Orchestra's 40th Anniversary and will be led by Conductor and Artistic Director Anthony Spain.

A Celebration Through Music

The evening’s program will include:

  • Philharmonic Fanfare by Gina Gillie ( celebrating both the Northwest Symphony Orchestra’s 40th anniversary and America’s 250th anniversary)
  • Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo by Aaron Copland
  • Cascadiana by Scott Henderson (accompanied by images provided by Northwest photographers)
  • Sketches from the Northwest by Nina Iorik ( a featured student composer)
  • Cowboy Suite by Brent Irwin ( presented as a world premiere)
  • A Festival Rondo by Richard Meyers
  • A Pioneers Tale by Alan Lee Silva

The final work, A Pioneers Tale, will feature students from the Highline School District, Key to Change Studio, and West Seattle High School.

Students age 18 and under are admitted free.
