Leaves, litter, and mystery street debris beware — Public Works Week is here.
National Public Works Week runs May 17–23, and it shines a spotlight on the people quietly keeping our communities running behind the scenes. Roads, storm drains, sidewalks, and other everyday systems often go unnoticed… until something stops working.
To celebrate, residents have a chance to become neighborhood heroes through Adopt-a-Drain or Adopt-a-Street programs. SeaTac recently shared the reminder, but the idea goes well beyond city boundaries. Anyone who wants to help keep their neighborhood looking cleaner and tidier can join in.
Think of it as regular cleaning for your street — only instead of cleaning out a junk drawer, you're helping clear storm drains and neighborhood spaces.
A few minutes spent clearing leaves, trash, and debris can help keep pollutants out of local waterways and help reduce drainage problems when rainy weather returns. Your neighborhood stays cleaner, local waterways stay healthier, and streets look a little better too.
And because every good deed deserves a reward, anyone who signs up during Public Works Week can receive a free chocolate salmon while supplies last.
Helping the environment and earning chocolate? That may be one of the easier civic decisions you'll make this week.
