The Burien City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, August 6 at 6 p.m. featuring the swearing-in of a new council member, the search for a new city manager, plus discussions on the city’s budget and financial sustainability.
At last week's meeting on July 27, a new council member, Patricia Hudson, was selected to fill the vacant Council Position Seat 2. During the same meeting, City Manager Adolfo Bailon was terminated by the City Council without cause, and the acting City Manager Bob Larson was directed to begin a search for a new city manager. Adding to the confusion, City Attorney Garmon Newsom has been absent for several months, and Ann Marie Soto is currently serving as interim/acting city attorney.
The faces in key leadership and governing positions are changing rapidly in the City of Burien, leaving some people wondering what is happening in the city.
Thursday's Special Meeting is an opportunity for citizens to observe the new council leadership in action and make public comments.
