For generations, the Fourth of July at Angle Lake has been about more than fireworks. It's a day when neighbors wave from decorated boats, children ride proudly in the parade, families gather along the shoreline, and old friends reconnect in one of SeaTac's favorite summer traditions.
That tradition continues Saturday, July 4, as the Angle Lake Shore Club hosts its annual Independence Day Celebration with activities from morning until night.
The day begins with the Bud Jones Memorial Walk Around the Lake at 9 a.m., followed by the memorial run at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the neighborhood parade rolls through the community, featuring decorated bicycles, wagons, golf carts, classic cars and plenty of red, white and blue.
The celebration moves to the water at 1 p.m. with swim and boat races before returning at sunset for the always-popular Decorated Boat Parade. As darkness falls, the day concludes with a fireworks display over Angle Lake beginning at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Visitors planning to watch the fireworks should plan ahead. The Angle Lake Shore Club is organizing this year's fireworks display, while the City of SeaTac is not sponsoring the event. As a result, Angle Lake Park will close at dusk and will not be available for fireworks viewing. Those planning to attend should make other viewing arrangements and expect heavier-than-normal traffic around the lake during the evening.
For many families, the celebration has become an annual tradition passed from one generation to the next. Whether you've lived on the lake for decades or are visiting for the first time, the event offers a chance to slow down, catch up with neighbors, and celebrate Independence Day the old-fashioned way.
