If it's the Fourth of July in Burien, chances are you'll find families unfolding lawn chairs along SW 152nd Street, kids waving flags, and neighbors greeting one another before the parade begins.
That hometown tradition continues Saturday as the 104th Annual Burien 4th of July Parade steps off at 11 a.m. in downtown Burien. This year's celebration comes during America's 250th birthday year, making the annual parade even more meaningful.
Before the parade begins, members of Boy Scout Troop 375 will be handing out 5,000 miniature American flags to spectators along the parade route. The flags will be distributed ahead of the veterans' Color Guard presentation, giving the crowd an opportunity to join in honoring those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
One of the morning's most meaningful moments will come as Burien veterans present the Color Guard and pay tribute to the fallen servicemen and women whose sacrifices made America's freedoms possible. While the Fourth of July is a celebration, it is also a time to remember those who never made it home.
The parade will feature local businesses, community organizations, classic cars, marching groups, youth organizations, and plenty of hometown pride. Thousands of people are expected to line the route through downtown to celebrate Independence Day together.
Whether you've attended for decades or this is your first time, the Burien parade has a way of bringing neighbors together. Children wave their flags, families catch up with friends, and the community takes a few hours to celebrate both the nation's birthday and the people who have helped preserve its freedoms.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, along SW 152nd Street in downtown Burien. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early, as streets will close before the parade begins and parking fills quickly.
